Practically, almost all of Germany experienced one of the hottest days of the year on Saturday. In some places, the thermometer reached significantly over 30 degrees Celsius. However, that's not all: "The high-pressure influence over Germany is weakening further and moving east. A low-pressure trough from the west has overtaken it, spreading eastward. It brings very warm, unstable air towards us," explains the German Weather Service (DWD). This means that almost the entire country must reckon with thunderstorms and heavy rain.
"Thunderstorm and shower activity extending from the west to central land areas in the afternoon, and from the east in the evening. Only from Vorpommern to Ostsachsen it will mostly remain dry," according to the DWD. The thunderstorms may even intensify in the evening. In some regions, there is potential for heavy rainfall of up to 30 to 50 liters per square meter in a short time, warn meteorologists.
Meanwhile, temperatures in Germany will range from 24 degrees in the west to 34 degrees in eastern regions that have not yet been reached by the low-pressure system. Smaller thunderstorms and showers will still occur at night, and temperatures will drop to 22 to 27 degrees on Monday, with unsettled weather.
