After the Assassination attempt on Donald Trump, security measures for the beginning Republican Party and for the former President are being strengthened again. The planning for the security of the meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was "overchecked and strengthened" after the attack on Saturday, according to Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle.

The agency is responsible for the protection of the incumbent in the White House and of former presidents. The planning for the security measures of the currently beginning four-day Republican Party convention was described as flexible and would be further adapted, "to ensure the highest level of security for the attendees, volunteers, and the city of Milwaukee," Cheatle added. Trump (78) is scheduled to be officially nominated as the Republican candidate for the presidential election in November at the convention.

Additionally, extra security measures for former President Trump will be changed, "to ensure his ongoing protection for the convention and the rest of the campaign," the statement continued. No details about the strengthened security measures were given.

The agency comes under scrutiny after the assassination attempt

"The Secret Service has the immense responsibility to protect current and former leaders of our democracy," Cheatle said. "This is a responsibility I take incredibly seriously, and I am committed to this mission."

The agency came under criticism after the assassination attempt on Saturday, when a shooter fired from a nearby roof at Trump during a campaign event in Pennsylvania. President Joe Biden (81) ordered an independent investigation of the incident. Moreover, several Republicans in the House of Representatives plan to initiate a detailed parliamentary investigation.

Cheatle declared that the Secret Service would work with all investigative agencies, "to understand what happened, how it happened, and how we can prevent such an incident from happening again." Furthermore, the agency would fully cooperate with Biden's ordered investigation and also work with possible investigations by the Congress.
