A 32-year-old former babysitter has been sentenced to 11 years and six months in prison for child abuse. Additionally, preventive detention has been ordered, a spokesperson for the Hanover Regional Court said after the verdict.

The man was convicted for severe sexual abuse of children with the intent of creating child pornography. The chamber assumed pedophilia as a motive, and he sought recognition in relevant forums by publishing images of the abuse. The trial was largely held in camera.

Children aged between 10 months and 7 years were the victims.

At the start of the trial, the prosecutor stated that the 32-year-old had a "pedosexual predilection for girls in early childhood". His victims included his own niece.

The abuse occurred, among other places, in Hanover between 2017 and 2023. According to the spokesperson, the 32-year-old, who had previous convictions, made a full confession.

According to the indictment, the 32-year-old offered his services as a babysitter. His goal was to establish contact with as many children as possible, the prosecutor said. The man possessed pornographic images and videos in large quantities - around 122,000 images and about 17,000 videos.

The heinous acts of child abuse took place in the city of Hanover, which is located in the German state of Lower Saxony. During the trial, it was revealed that the 32-year-old had previously worked as a babysitter in Hanover.
