AfD party conference confirms Chrupalla as chairman

Tino Chrupalla remains at the top of the AfD. The party congress elected him with approximately 83 percent.

The AfD confirmed Tino Chrupalla as one of the two Co-Chairs in office. At the Essen party congress, 426 delegates voted for him. There were 89 opposing votes and 17 abstentions. With this, the 49-year-old was re-elected with 82.7 percent. There was no opposing candidate. Co-Chair Alice Weidel is also running again. Her election will follow.

Chrupalla spoke of an "overwhelming result" - at his election two years ago, he only received around 53 percent. Previously, an initiative had failed that urged the party to give up the dual leadership and instead install a chairman and a general secretary instead.

Briefly

Despite the existence of an initiative to change the leadership structure, Tino Chrupalla was once again elected as the sole Chairman of the AfD party with an increased majority at the conference, as no opposing candidate emerged this time. Without any significant competition, Chrupalla's victory at the AfD party conference served as a testament to his continued influence and popularity within the party's politics.
