Advertising for federal budget veiled

Does the Ministry of Finance see black? A plaque on the building actually read: "With money and sense. Curbing debt, creating opportunities. Our federal budget." Now a black cloth hangs there.

Advertising for federal budget veiled

Now probably without "money and sense": the Federal Ministry of Finance has covered up a billboard advertising the federal budget at its headquarters in Berlin. Today, all that could be seen at the site was a large black surface - the poster with the slogan "With money and sense. Put the brakes on debt, create opportunities. Our federal budget." was completely covered with a cloth in the mourning color black.

The reason for the covering was the end of the advertising campaign for the 2024 federal budget, the Ministry of Finance told Deutsche Presse-Agentur when asked. The façade banner was part of a package of public relations measures by the Ministry of Finance, which ran "until the planned conclusion of the budget negotiations". The elements were therefore removed.

Following last week's budget ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court, there is a large gap in the federal budget. The Karlsruhe court had declared a reallocation of 60 billion euros in loans null and void. The budget is therefore not yet finalized.

Despite the ongoing budget negotiations and the recent ruling from the Federal Constitutional Court, the Federal Ministry of Finance chose to hide the "Household"-themed advertisement for the federal budget on its Berlin headquarters, replacing the original poster with a large black cloth. Surprisingly, the "Federal Government" decided to end the advertising campaign early, stating that the facade banner was merely a part of their public relations measures.
