ADAC expects traffic jams to resume this weekend
The ADAC warns for the weekend of traffic jams and delays due to the end of holidays in several federal states. Many vacationers are expected to travel home on Saturday and Sunday, the automobile club announced. Among them are travelers from North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, the Saarland, and the south of the Netherlands, where holidays will also end soon.
Fewer travel movements are expected towards holiday regions compared to previous weekends. Towards the sea or mountains, mainly drivers from Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria are still on the road, where the fourth holiday week begins. Due to the regional holiday of Maria Himmelfahrt on Thursday, many car vacationers from Bavaria are likely to start their weekend on Wednesday afternoon.
The ADAC expects the most traffic jams on German motorways at longer construction sites or sections where the number of lanes is reduced. In neighboring countries, congestion is expected on the Tauern, Fernpass, Inntal, Brenner, Pyhrn, Karawanken, and Gotthard routes, as well as on the roads to the Italian, French, and Croatian coasts. However, delays can also occur on the roads to and from Scandinavia, Poland, and the Netherlands.
Moreover, the ADAC reports that there may be controls at the Austrian border, which can also lead to delays. Similarly, increased controls are taking place at the borders to Poland, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, and France, according to the automobile club.
- Despite fewer travelers heading towards holiday regions, the ADAC anticipates significant traffic jams and delays on German motorways from vacationers returning from North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, the Saarland, and the south of the Netherlands, as reported by the automobile club.
- Additionally, the ADAC advises travelers to be aware of potential delays at the Austrian border due to increased controls, which could also impact travelers returning from holiday destinations in neighboring countries, such as Italy, France, and the Croatian coast, as well as those heading towards Scandinavia, Poland, and the Netherlands.
