Cargo transportation - ADAC: A1 blockade at Kamen crosscan have significant impact
According to ADAC, the section of A1 motorway between Kamener Kreuz and Dortmund/Unna, currently fully closed due to a leaking hazardous goods transporter, is one of the most heavily trafficked motorway sections in Germany. The area is generally very dusty and ranks among the top 10 congested spots in Germany between Munster and Dortmund during traffic jams, a spokesperson told dpa on inquiry. If the closure lasts longer, significant impacts are also expected on alternative routes.
Since Wednesday evening, gas has been leaking from a hazardous goods transporter, resulting in the ongoing closure. It is still unclear how the hazardous substance can be removed from the tanker, a spokeswoman for the city of Unna told the German Press Agency. The duration of the closure was initially uncertain. According to reports, deep-frozen ethylene, a highly flammable gas, has leaked from the lorry. The Autobahn GmbH's Westphalia branch advises long-distance traffic to divert - for example, via A33 and A44 or via A43. In the immediate vicinity, drivers should use A2 and A45 instead.
Even though the summer holidays have begun in NRW, the motorway A1 could be fully blocked on Thursday afternoon near the accident site due to commuter traffic, as described by the ADAC spokesperson. However, Friday afternoon could be particularly problematic if the closure continues. The A1 route also leads to the North and Baltic Seas - a popular holiday destination for NRW residents. Additionally, Friday afternoon is usually the busiest traffic day of the week.
- The leak from the hazardous goods transporter on the A1 motorway between Kamener Kreuz and Dortmund/Unna, which is causing significant traffic disruptions, is a concern for cargo transport companies operating in North Rhine-Westphalia, such as Cargo Transporter based in Unna.
- ADAC advises drivers travelling towards Dortmund or Munster to consider alternative routes due to the ongoing closure of the A1 motorway section near Dortmund/Unna, affected by an accident involving a hazardous cargo transport vehicle from Unna.
- Traffic congestion in North Rhine-Westphalia, including the section of A1 between Munster and Dortmund, is a regular occurrence, especially during peak hours and holidays, making cargo transport operations challenging and potentially increasing the risk of accidents like the one near Dortmund/Unna.
- The ACAD spokesperson reports that the Munster church city in northwest Germany and other North Rhine-Westphalia destinations, particularly those along the A1 route, may be affected by significant traffic delays due to the ongoing closure of the A1 motorway section near Dortmund/Unna, involving a hazardous goods transporter from the city of Unna.
