Statistics - About 55,000 people employed at Hesse's universities
In Hessian universities and university clinics, a total of 54,741 people were employed at the end of last year. The Statistical Office in Wiesbaden announced on Tuesday that this number remained nearly the same as in the previous year 2022. About half (50.9%) of the employees were part of the scientific personnel. The other half worked in the non-scientific sector, which includes, among others, nursing staff in university clinics and administrative staff.
While women were less represented in the scientific personnel (women's share: 40.5%), there were significantly more women than men employed in the non-scientific sector (women's share: 69.5%).
The Statistical Office in Wiesbaden, which is located in the German state of Hesse, is responsible for releasing employment statistics. The University in Hesse, along with its affiliated University Clinic, collectively employed 54,741 individuals at the end of the preceding year, with a slight increase compared to 2022.
