Traffic obstruction - A43 in Herne closed during the last weekend in July
Last July weekend, the A43 motorway will be closed in both directions at Herne. The closure will take place from Friday evening (26.7., 9 pm) to Monday (5 am), according to the Autobahn GmbH.
Traffic will be rerouted extensively via the A40, A45, and A42 or the A2 during this period. In the city areas of Recklinghausen and Herne, additional rerouting lanes will be signposted. However, the Recklinghausen-Hochlarmark interchange will remain open in the direction of Munster during the closure.
The reason for the prolonged closure is work on a new tunnel at the Herne interchange. Technology will be installed there, as well as repairs to the A43 motorway's carriageway in the interchange.
A43 Motorway Expansion: One of the largest Autobahn construction projects in NRW
More than 90,000 vehicles use the A43 between Marl and Witten daily - too many for the two carriageways in each direction. In one of the largest Autobahn construction sites in North Rhine-Westphalia, the stretch is being expanded to a total of six carriageways. In addition, a new 550-meter-long tunnel is being built between the A42 and A43. Furthermore, the Emschertal Bridge, which has been closed to heavy goods traffic for years, needs to be replaced.
- Due to the A43 Motorway Expansion project in North Rhine-Westphalia, residents and commuters in the Ruhr Area, particularly in cities like Recklinghausen and Bochum, should anticipate traffic obstructions during the weekend closure of the A43 motorway at Herne.
- With the traffic obstruction on the A43 motorway in Herne expected to last over the weekend, commuters from places like Recklinghausen and Ruhr area towns such as Herne may wish to consider alternative routes, such as utilizing the A40, A45, or A42.
- Although the A43 motorway closure between Marl and Witten will cause notable traffic disruptions in the Ruhr Area, particularly in cities like Recklinghausen and Herne, the project's ultimate goal is to reduce traffic congestion in the long term.
- After completing the traffic obstruction work in Herne and the A43 motorway expansion, commuters traveling between Marl and Witten in North Rhine-Westphalia can expect reduced travel times, smoother traffic flow, and improved road infrastructure, contributing to a more efficient transportation system in the Ruhr Area.
