A woman is in prison for murdering her own mother

With 37 strokes, a 50-year-old woman kills her mother and sets the shared apartment on fire later. However, she does not receive the maximum sentence in court due to a reduced capacity to understand wrongdoing being claimed.

A woman from Hannover received a twelve-year prison sentence for the murder of her own mother. The Hanover Regional Court convicted the 50-year-old woman not only for murder but also for arson and disturbing the peace of the dead. The judges classified the defendant as legally impaired due to her severe depression.

The landlady confessed to surprising her 74-year-old mother in her sleep, killing her with a hammer, and then intending to interrogate her. She then planned to take her own life. The 37 wounds inflicted on the victim, according to the daughter, were due to her panicking.

The defendant stated, after the judge's remarks, that she agreed with the verdict. However, it is not yet legally binding. With the verdict, the court adhered to the prosecution's demand for 14 years and six months in prison. The defense pleaded for six years and five months in prison.

The woman's murder and manslaughter trial was an international news event, attracting attention from processes worldwide. The Hanover Regional Court's judgment for the 50-year-old defendant included not only a 12-year prison sentence for murder but also time for arson and disturbing the peace of the dead.
