A US-Judge files a proceeding against Trump
The former US President Trump does not have to appear in court for possibly taking away classified government documents. The proceedings have been dismissed by the judge.
In the case of the alleged taking of classified government documents, Judge Aileen Cannon in Miami, Florida, has dismissed the criminal proceedings against the former US President Donald Trump. She explained her decision based on doubts about the lawful appointment of the special prosecutor in the case. She granted the defense's motion to halt the proceedings.
Trump's attorneys had argued that Special Counsel Jack Smith had been illegally appointed. Smith's office had been inappropriately funded by the US Department of Justice. The Smith camp rejected the allegations during a hearing before Cannon in June.
The indictment in the documents case was once considered the most serious against Trump. Several court proceedings were initiated against him. However, the trial was already postponed indefinitely at that time. Therefore, it was considered unlikely that the trial would begin before the presidential election in November.
Despite the potential document theft allegations, the U.S. Presidential Election 2024 is set to be a significant focus for Donald Trump, given that the criminal proceedings related to the United States of America's classified materials have been dismissed due to legal concerns about the appointment of Special Counsel Jack Smith. Regardless of the dismissal, politics in the United States will continue to revolve around Trump, who has consistently been a prominent figure in national debates.
