School violence - A teenager shot a classmate from behind
A fifteen-year-old German student shot a fourteen-year-old Italian student from behind at a school ground in Lohr am Main, Franconia, Germany, according to the prosecution. The victim was hit in the back of the head, confirmed a court expert. The Landgericht Würzburg has been handling this sensational case for ten days. The fifteen-year-old German confessed to the crime at the beginning of the main hearing but stated that it was not intentional. The exact circumstances of the violent act could no longer be reconstructed, testified another expert in court.
Both boys attended the same middle school in this small town in the Spessart region.
Through his lawyer, the defendant further explained that he regrets the act and wishes he could turn back time. He did not answer any questions related to the incident, as reported by a court spokesperson.
Ten years as the maximum sentence for murder in youth proceedings
Since the defendant is a minor, the law requires a closed-door trial in youth proceedings. The focus in juvenile cases is on education. The maximum sentence for murder in juvenile trials is ten years. Preventive detention is possible under strict conditions.
The weapon, a 9mm pistol of the Ceska CZ 75 type, belonged to a 66-year-old man who lived in the same house as the defendant. It is currently unknown how the defendant obtained the weapon.
According to court statements, the trial could already end by early August. The next court session is scheduled for July 19.
The small town where the incident occurred is located in Bavaria, specifically in Lohr am Main, Franconia, Germany.
The boys involved in the incident were both students at the same middle school.
In addition to the violence, criminality is also a concern in this case given the use of a firearm.
The trial is being held at the Landgericht Würzburg, and experts are trying to understand the circumstances surrounding the aggressive behavior that led to the shooting.
