In June, Germany hasn't experienced summer temperatures yet. However, with the European Championship around the corner, people are hoping for better weather. Unfortunately, the forecasts point towards a gloomy outlook.

Football fans in Germany are excited for the UEFA Euro 2020, which kicks off this month. The opening match is set to take place in Munich, Germany. Let's hope for perfect weather like during the 2006 FIFA World Cup, where the temperatures soared after a rainy spring. Back then, June was sunny and hot, leading to the hottest July ever recorded. The average temperature for the month of July 2006 was almost 22°C, which is around 5°C warmer than usual.

But this year, the weather seems like it's taking a turn for the worse. The first week of June had an average temperature of around 15°C, making it colder than the average temperature for June. It's expected to stay this way for now. The forecasts predict cooler-than-average temperatures with some rainfall throughout the month.

There's a chance that the sun will make an appearance in certain areas, such as Eifel to Brandenburg, where the rain forecasts are slightly more optimistic.

The weather patterns for the rest of the month leading up to the Euros are uncertain. It's looking like June might not be as warm and sunny as we'd hoped. Fingers crossed that the sun makes an appearance for the Euros starting on June 11th and going until the final on July 11th.

Monday: Thunderstorms and heavy rain in the south

In the south of Germany, thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected. The Danube region and the Bavarian Forest will be the most affected. On the other hand, the coast will remain cloudy, while the rest of the country experiences clear skies. Later on, rain clouds will move in from the northwest, and temperatures will drop to 14°C to 6°C.

Tuesday: Rain in the northwest and south

The south of the Danube will stay rainy, with flood risks increasing. Meanwhile, the northwest will remain wet. Elsewhere in Germany, skies will clear up and become dry more often. The day will be windy, with temperatures ranging from 14°C to 23°C.

Wednesday: Trending Towards Sun

Stormy weather still occurs in the south and northwest of Germany. However, most of the country will enjoy sunny and dry weather. Temperatures will rise, reaching 20°C on Wednesday.

Thursday: Harbinger of Summer

By this day, thundery showers are expected to move on from the south and northwest. Elsewhere in Germany, sunny weather and rising temperatures will prevail. The temperature will increase, reaching 22°C.

Friday and the weekend: Summer in the forecast

Temperatures will rise, reaching 18°C to 24°C on Friday. Summer will make a strong comeback for the weekend, with temperatures up to 26°C on Sunday. The east will see the most sunshine and the highest temperatures. The west, which was previously unpredictable and had a chance of thunderstorms, could become sunny on Sunday, offering a positive conclusion to the week.

Despite the international excitement for UEFA Euro 2020, weather forecasts suggest that temperatures in Germany might not reach the highs experienced during the 2006 FIFA World Cup, with which Björn Alexander, a renowned meteorologist, compared the current situation. The upcoming weeks show a prediction of cooler-than-average temperatures and some rainfall throughout the month, posing a potential challenge for football fans hoping for ideal weather conditions.
