A skydiver crashes in the Upper Alps

In Bavaria, a paraglider crashes. An on-scene doctor cannot save the 61-year-old. Police suspect a physical issue caused the accident.

A paraglider has died in the Bavarian district of Ostallgäu. The 61-year-old took off from the Nebelhorn and crashed on Monday afternoon on the north side of the Schattenberg near Oberstdorf, as police reported.

"It appears that while flying parallel to the ridge of the Schattenberg, his parachute collapsed on one side due to a thermal problem and he crashed into rocky terrain," they said. Another paraglider witnessed the crash and alerted emergency services.

Mountain rescue personnel with a doctor arrived by helicopter at the crash site but could only confirm the man's death.

The tragic incident occurred in the Bavarian region of Ostallgäu. The paraglider who met with misfortune hailed from Bavaria as well.
