A single fatality and six individuals unaccounted for following the capsizing of an extravagant yacht near Sicily.
A high-end yacht went under off Sicily's shore, leading to at least one confirmed death and six individuals unaccounted for. A corpse was discovered within the submerged boat, located at a depth of 50 meters, although it hasn't been retrieved yet, as per a representative from the Italian Coast Guard. Fifteen individuals aboard the "Bayesian" were saved.
As reported by the Coast Guard, a 56-meter long vessel, the "Bayesian," flying under the British flag, sank near Porticello this morning around 5 AM, following a fierce storm. Initially, seven individuals were reported missing, comprising four British, two American, and one Canadian nationals.
The luxury yacht carried a crew of ten and twelve passengers. Eight of the rescued required hospitalization. Search and rescue teams scoured the surroundings of the sunken ship in pursuit of the missing, with helicopters offering air support.
Italian media outlets claimed that the yacht was ensnared in a waterspout, a whirlwind over the ocean. As per the news site "TGCom24," the "Bayesian" was constructed in Tuscany in 2008 and underwent renovations in 2020. It boasts a 75-meter high aluminum mast and a sail area of almost 3000 square meters.
The search for the remaining six individuals, including four British, two Americans, and one Canadian, is ongoing among the other debris and wreckage near the sunken yacht. Despite the efforts of the search and rescue team, no other corpses have been discovered yet.
