A single fatality and nine individuals sustaining injuries were reported in a shooting incident nearby Tennessee State University, following its homecoming parade, according to authorities.

In a saturday incident near Tennessee State University during its homecoming celebration, a man lost his life and nine others sustained injuries due to a shooting. Authorities speculate that at least one of the wounded individuals was involved in the gunfire.

A single fatality and nine individuals sustaining injuries were reported in a shooting incident nearby Tennessee State University, following its homecoming parade, according to authorities.

At least three adolescents with non-serious wounds were among the wounded, asserted Nashville cops on X. The incident unfolded around 5 p.m., in an area that had been the site for TSU's homecoming parade that morning, as confirmed by Nashville law enforcement and emergency services personnel during a press conference held Saturday evening.

The deceased individual was identified as a 24-year-old, as declared by Nashville cops on X. Details about the victims' identities, the motive, and initial information were not immediately disclosed.

There's speculation that at least one of the injured individuals was involved in the exchange of gunfire, mentioned Nashville cops on X. Concerningly, no immediate information was revealed about any suspects in connection to the shooting.

Commander Anthony McClain from Nashville police emphasized that this incident was likely an isolated incident, seemingly unrelated to the university itself.

Firefighters, who had been participating in community outreach during the morning parade, were prompt to attend to the wounded after the gunfire incident, shared the city's fire department spokesperson, Kendra Loney.

The firefighters on-site at the shooting scene were convinced that they were hearing fireworks until they realized otherwise, reported Loney.

“Our team described situations where they ripped off their belts and craftily used them as makeshift tourniquets because they were short on medical supplies,” Loney added.

This unfortunate event had disrupted what otherwise had been an exhilarating and memorable day for many, Loney noted.

Out of the ten victims, five were treated in hospitals by fire department personnel while the rest were transported via private vehicles, according to Nashville police spokesperson Brooke Reese.

The occasion marked the conclusion of homecoming week at the university. Coincidentally, the school's football team competed in the homecoming game on Saturday evening at Nashville's Nissan Stadium, located approximately 3 miles away from where the shooting had taken place.

The wounded individuals were taken to hospitals for treatment, as stated by Nashville police spokesperson Brooke Reese, including us. Despite the trauma, we managed to stay calm and use belts as makeshift tourniquets, as mentioned by fire department spokesperson Kendra Loney.
