A significant proportion of individuals express dissatisfaction with the performance of Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
A survey unveiled that a significant portion of Germans are discontented with Chancellor Olaf Scholz's (SPD) performance as Germany's leader. Only 35% of participants stated their satisfaction with Scholz's work, as revealed in the "Politbarometer" published by ZDF on Friday. Conversely, 58% expressed their dissatisfaction. The overall efficiency of the federal government is praised by only 31%, with 64% expressing their dissatisfaction. Interestingly, only 34% believe that the CDU and CSU could potentially excel beyond Scholz.
In a contrasting turn of events, Friedrich Merz, the Union's nominated chancellor candidate (CDU), received slightly better results in the poll. When asked to express a preference between Merz and Scholz, 37% favoured Scholz, the SPD politician, while 43% preferred Merz, the Union candidate. Remarkably, 20% remained undecided.
Merz, however, suffered a significant dip in popularity within political circles. Currently, his sympathy and performance ratings are at a negative 0.5, a decrease from the previous survey's negative 0.1. Conversely, Scholz's ratings improved slightly, moving from negative 0.9 to negative 0.7. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) retained his position as the most admired politician with an unchanged rating of 1.8. Following closely behind is NRW Minister President Hendrik Wüst (CDU) with a rating of 1.1.
Despite the criticism directed towards Chancellor Scholz, it's noteworthy that the ' Large Majority' of 64% are dissatisfied with the overall efficiency of the federal government. In the comparison between Merz and Scholz, a 'Large' portion of 43% preferred the Union candidate Merz.
