A minor teenager gets bitten by a shark at a North Carolina coastline.
Emergency responders, including cops and EMS, were already on duty when an unexpected shark attack took place at around 12:30 PM. They were on-site within two minutes after the attack, according to Younginer.
Witnesses managed to pull the teenager out of the water and applied towels and pressure to stop the bleeding. A police officer applied a tourniquet, and EMS stabilized the patient, as shared by the chief.
The victim was then transported to Camp Lejune Naval Hospital where medical staff worked on his injured leg. Younginer told CNN that the boy is expected to be discharged shortly.
Shark attacks, which are usually deemed as "unusual," have been happening regularly this summer season.
No shark sightings were reported, and Younginer confirmed that this attack is indeed an "unusual occurrence" for the area.
Actor, lifeguard, and surf instructor, Tamayo Perry, succumbed to a shark attack on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, as per officials. Perry was brought ashore before being declared dead by first responders, according to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services.
The type of shark responsible for the attack remains unknown.
The International Shark Attack File’s 2023 report revealed that there were 120 interactions between sharks and humans worldwide last year, with 69 unprovoked bites. Thirty-six of these incidents occurred in the US, with three in North Carolina, all of which were non-fatal.
