A 79-year-old man jumped into the Landwehr Canal in Berlin-Tiergarten to save his dog but ended up losing his own life. He sank and drowned, according to a police spokesperson. The dog survived and was brought to shore by its owner.

Witnesses observed the man jumping into the water near Cornelius Bridge this afternoon. After rescuing his dog from the water, the man was unable to get out on his own and went under. Called emergency services, fire department rescue teams and a helicopter were dispatched to the scene.

According to the fire department, divers located the 79-year-old man and retrieved him using a boat. Revival attempts were unsuccessful. Approximately 36 fire department personnel were on site.

The emergency services, including the fire department and a police helicopter, were dispatched due to the man's distress in the water. Despite the rescue efforts, the animals and the elderly man could not be saved simultaneously. The unfortunate incident took place near Animals, specifically near Cornelius Bridge in Berlin.
