Austria in the Spotlight - A lot of earth buried two children, and one of them passed away.
In Austria, near Graz, tragedy struck as a five-year-old boy got trapped under a fallen edge in a wooded area, ultimately resulting in his death. A mother, along with her two children and two visiting children, was present at the scene. Initially, it was uncertain if the deceased child belonged to the mother. The ages of the other children were also not revealed.
The Steiermark Fire Department provided details about the incident, stating that a raised edge in the wooded area had collapsed, burying two children. Efforts to free one child were successful quickly, but the second child's rescue took an hour. However, it was too late to save this young soul. The other two kids were unaffected. It was gathered that the children had been playing in the woods. The event transpired after 5 pm.
A Heavy Downpour in Austria
The region had experienced heavy rainfall for several days prior to the incident, but it was yet to be determined if this contributed to the edge breaking off. The identity of the individual who had saved the first child remained unknown as per the fire department spokesperson in the evening. Around 140 personnel from the Steiermark Fire Department took part in the operation.
