Weather forecast - A hot summer weather follows a rainy weekend
Saturday falls in large parts of Germany into water. The German Weather Service (DWD) expects strong rain and occasional heavy showers from the Upper Rhine and the Eifel region to the northeast. It will still be summer warm with highest temperatures in the northwest between 21 and 25 degrees, otherwise also warmer between 25 and 30 degrees.
On Sunday night, "the next round of heavy rain" is expected, said meteorologist Felix Dietzsch from DWD. The regions between Harz and Berlin are likely to be affected. "Here, quantities of up to 40 liters per square meter in a few hours are possible again."
Unpredictable Sunday
On Sunday, in the east and south, clouds can be seen in the sky. There may also be thunderstorms and rain in these regions. In the rest of the country, however, it will be sunny: Towards the North Sea and in the southwest, the sun is also visible for longer periods and it remains dry. The thermometer reaches 20 degrees around the German Bight and up to 28 degrees at Upper and High Rhine.
The weather calms down again in the new week, meteorologist Dietzsch explained. On Monday, it will be mostly sunny or only partially cloudy. However, thunderstorms can occur in the Alps. Temperatures fluctuate between 23 degrees in the northeast and up to 32 degrees in the southwest.
Hot summer weather with thunderstorm risk
"Above all, hot air from the southwest is moving towards us in the direction of the middle of the week," predicts the meteorologist. Over two to three days, it can get really hot with maximum temperatures between 30 and 35 degrees. However, it will only be 23 to 28 degrees in the north. "However, with the increasing duration of the heat, the thunderstorm risk also increases - at the latest by Wednesday, it will probably be much more unstable."
On weekend getaways in Germany, one might consider avoiding the Upper Rhine and Eifel regions due to the forecasted heavy rain and showers. Despite the wet weather in some parts, Offenbach and regions towards the North Sea are predicted to have sunny periods and higher temperatures. After the unpredictable Sunday with potential rain and thunderstorms, the weather in Germany is expected to calm down in the new week, with sunny days and temperature fluctuations across the country. Particularly in the southwest, temperatures could reach up to 32 degrees, while the Alps may experience thunderstorms. Despite the predicted hot weather, meteorologists warn of an increasing thunderstorm risk as the week progresses, especially in the middle of the week.
