According to Human Rights Group - A German was sentenced to death in Belarus

In Belarus, according to a human rights organization, a German citizen has been sentenced to death. The Belarusian organization Viasna announced on a Friday that the 30-year-old had already been pronounced guilty in a secret trial on June 24, 2023, for six criminal charges. Previously, he had been charged with "terrorism" and "mercenary activity."

The sentencing is reportedly linked to the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment, a military unit of Belarusian citizens who fight on Ukraine's side against Russia.

Convicted German in Belarus arrested in November 2023

According to Viasna, the man was also reportedly charged with "explosions" in Belarus. He has been in custody since November 2023. Further information about the convicted German was allegedly not available to the organization. Viasna is internationally renowned; its founder Ales Bialiatski was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022.

Belarus is the only European country where the death penalty is still imposed and carried out – exclusively against men. The executions' data are not disclosed, and the bodies of the executed are not returned to their families. They are also not informed about the burial site.

The human rights group Viasna stated that the German citizen, who was arrested in November 2023, was additionally charged with causing explosions within Belarus, beyond the terrorism and mercenary activity accusations. Despite his conviction, details about the German man remained scant, as reported by the esteemed human rights organization.
