A fatal accident occurred at 19:15 in Schorndorf while attempting to remove water from a basement.

A tragic incident occurred in Schorndorf, Rems-Murr-Kreis, as police in Aalen reported that two individuals lost their lives while trying to remove water from the basement of their home. The victims were a 58-year-old homeowner and his 84-year-old mother, who were both found dead in the empty, pumped basement. Witnesses revealed that the pair were attempting to remove water from the flooded house when the incident happened. Authorities are presently unsure of how the accident transpired and the cause of death is yet to be determined. Their house's basement was entirely submerged in water. Rescue teams from the fire department found the deceased individuals in the free of water basement following the flood. The Rems-Murr-Kreis region suffered a significant impact from the flood in the southwest, with the situation in this area unexpectedly worsening during the night.

Landkreis Rosenheim has declared a state of emergency due to the persistent rainfall. This decision allows for a quicker response and better coordination of emergency services to manage the flood situation. Emergency teams from the fire department and THW are on the way with a large number of personnel.

The German Weather Service (DWD) has withdrawn its warning for heavy rainfall in Baden-Württemberg. However, the accumulated damage from the floods in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria is still uncertain and could potentially reach millions. Consequently, the Greens are advocating for the suspension of the debt brake. "Given the anticipated costs, we must be prepared to reconsider temporarily suspending the debt brake," stated Green climate expert Lisa Badum to "t-online."

The flood situation in Hesse remains serious as Rhine and Neckar river levels continue to increase, with HLNUG anticipating that the Rhine levels will rise until Wednesday. At four pegs, the Rhine is projected to surpass the Hessian warning level 3, with the highest levels anticipated on Tuesday. The Main water levels are also anticipated to rise on Monday, although warning levels will presumably not be exceeded in the coming days.

The police and fire department were dispatched to rescue a man in Dörzbach, Baden-Württemberg, from his vehicle. The 54-year-old had decided to drive onto a flooded sports field to observe the floodwaters, and as a result, his car stalled after just a few metres. The car was partially submerged under water up to the window level. The driver eventually called for help and emerged unharmed, though he will be responsible for the costs associated with the rescue.

In Rudersberg, Rems-Murr-Kreis, the mayor Bernd Hornikel described harrowing situations resulting from the flood. The water levels rose rapidly in the region, leaving firefighters with no choice but to abort their rescue attempts due to the worsening situation. Seven fire departments were deployed to Rudersberg, but only one managed to reach the community. The local fire department lost three vehicles as a result, which are now considered completely flooded.

The population of Moosburg an der Isar in the Freising district had to evacuate their homes due to a dam breach on the Amper in northern Bavaria. Approximately a dozen residents are affected. An asylum shelter was evacuated the day before. The Amper water levels have exceeded previous high records, with the gauge at Inkofen measuring 3.98 meters—significantly higher than the previous record from 1994 that was at 3.66 meters.

Additional dam breaches are expected in Swabia due to the heavy floods. The District Office in Donauwörth urged residents of Heißesheim and Auchsesheim in Donau-Ries to leave the area immediately as the chance of the dams collapsing is high. Residents must be prepared for the possibility of being completely engulfed by water. Emergency shelters have been arranged.

The flood crisis has continued to worsen, leading to more fatalities and calamitous situations. Several regions have experienced flood-related emergencies, prompting a need for increased emergency measures and assistance. The current situation will undoubtedly have considerable financial repercussions, which is why calls for the suspension of the debt brake are gaining traction.

The health administration in the Donau-Ries district has expanded its advice to boil water for drinking due to the ongoing flood situation. At first, the recommendation was limited to residents in Mertingen and Oberndorf, but nowpeople in these communities and districts face the same rule: Eggelstetten, Genderkingen, Bäumenheim, Heißesheim, Überfeldsiedlung, Asbach-Bäumenheim, Hamlar, and the districts of Sulzdorf and Gunzenheim in the Kaisheimer area.

A severe weather warning has been issued by the German Meteorological Service (DWD) for the middle and eastern Alps, as heavy thunderstorms, rainfall, and high winds could cause further damage. The DWD predicts rainfall of 40 to 60 liters per square meter in six hours, along with wind gusts up to 60 kilometers per hour and small hail. Affected regions are the Upper Bavaria government district, involving Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Berchtesgaden District, Garmisch-Partenkirchen District, Miesbach District, Rosenheim District, Traunstein District, Weilheim-Schongau District, and the city of Rosenheim.

Unfortunately, two people lost their lives in Baden-Württemberg due to the floods. A spokesman for the Aalen Police Department reports that a man and a woman were found dead in a house within the Rems-Murr district. This increases the death toll in southern Germany from the current floods to at least four, as two deaths have also occurred in Bavaria.

The relief workers are working tirelessly in the flood-affected areas. The Technical Relief Organization Donauwörth is filling 2000 sandbags per hour, while volunteers in Günzburg save people from flooded houses. The rescue operations continue at full speed throughout Bavaria, with many people going without sleep.

Rudersberg in Baden-Württemberg has experienced heavy flooding, with water masses carrying cars away. Several vehicles ended up on railway tracks, one on a well, and household items were washed away from houses. Heavy rains caused debris to accumulate on a bridge. The town in the Rems-Murr district is struggling significantly with flooding.

Eleven years after a flood catastrophe in Niederalteich, one of the Donau dams remains unfinished. In 2013, residents of Niederalteich faced a flood catastrophe, and since then, the dams have been repaired. Traffic on the A9 is being disrupted due to a dam break in Upper Bavaria. While the direction towards Nuremberg is open, a blockade discharge is being set up for the route to Munich. A police spokesperson states that currently, only 300 vehicles can use the section between Ingolstadt-South and Langenbruck. Further closures are possible.

In a visit to the affected regions, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed solidarity and gratitude towards the emergency personnel. The SPD politician stressed the need for support in the aftermath of the floods, commending the efforts of the federal government. Scholz has visited the emergency areas four times this year, noting the increasing frequency of similar flood events as a result of climate change.

In Hahnbach, an 81-year-old driver sought the Fire Department's help as he was stuck in floodwaters. The man was observing the flood of the Vils from his car when it became impossible to drive further. He climbed onto the roof through the sliding door and called for assistance. The police were contacted by a bystander, and the Fire Department rescued the individual and vehicle using a specialized vehicle.

A cruise ship was also caught in the Danube floods. Despite rescue attempts, the ship remains stuck in the water. Details about the specific location, and the number of people aboard the vessel are not currently available.

In Deggendorf, efforts are underway to evacuate a Danube cruise ship with around 150 passengers from the US and England, reports the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation. The vessel can't proceed with its journey on the Danube due to the flood. Thomas Kindel, head of the disaster control at the Deggendorf district office, informed BR that a work boat is currently docking at the harbor to transport 25-30 people at a time to safety.

The water levels of the Danube are steadily increasing, indicating a flood situation similar to the one in 2002. The Bavarian Flood Information Service estimates that the Danube downstream from Regensburg will carry roughly the same volume of water as during the 2002 flood. This is evident when the Isar river enters the Danube in Deggendorf, says a spokeswoman for the Flood Information Service. The Danube spans 2,850 kilometers, making it the second longest river in Europe. In Passau, a water level of 10.80 meters at the Ilzstadt measuring point was recorded on August 13, 2002. As of Monday morning, the value was 7.77 meters with an upward trend. ntv meteorologist Paul Heger discusses this critical flood situation and the dangers for the next few days:
