To cover up the alcohol smell after an accident, a 77-year-old driver in Witten, North Rhine-Westphalia, literally bit the grass. According to the police in Bochum, this incident occurred on a Wednesday when the man damaged another car while parking. A 46-year-old man noticed this.
Apparently, the senior wanted to flee, so the witness stood in front of his car to stop him. However, the driver accelerated, causing the younger man to fall onto the hood and sustain light injuries. When the senior finally got out of the car, he started pulling grass from a nearby lawn and eating it, according to the police.
Apparently, he wanted to mask his alcohol smell, it was further stated. Passersby called the police. An alcohol breath test showed a reading of 0.64 promille for the driver. A doctor drew blood from him, which the police confiscated, and they initiated investigations. The officers also suggested a fitness-to-drive assessment.
