Unambiguous Message - A cross made of wood has been placed in front of the office of the State President
Unknown individuals have placed a black Wooden Cross in front of Landtag President Birgit Pommer's (Left) constituency office in Bleicherode (Nordhausen District). On it is the inscription "German Victims, Foreign Perpetrators" as well as a painted knife that seems to be dripping with blood, as confirmed by the police. A similar cross was found nearby on the Autobahn 38. It appears to be about politically motivated crime, said a police spokesperson.
Co-Landeschefin of the Left Party Ulrike Grosse-Roethig commented on the incident: "When crude xenophobia is spreading in the land, it is a mission for us for humanity and clear stance." Pommer's office has been a target of attacks in the past. For instance, in February, swastikas were smeared on the office.
The Electoral Office in Thuringia has expressed concern over the recurring incidents of criminality, citing the black wooden cross with offensive messages and the painted knife as examples. The Nordhausen District authorities have pledged to increase security measures around the Bleicherode constituency office following these incidents. Despite the distressing messages, a wooden cross with a similar inscription was discovered along Autobahn 38, adding to the concerns about the rising tide of intolerance.
