Authorities in Döbeln, Saxony, are set to release more details about a grisly find of a body. It is likely that more information will be revealed today, such as whether the lifeless body discovered is that of the nine-year-old Valeriia, who has been missing in the Mittelsachsen district for over a week. The girl, who speaks broken German and has been living in Germany with her mother since 2022, went to school on June 3 but never showed up.
A press conference has been scheduled for the morning. Following the gross finding of a body near the 24,000-resident city of Döbeln, the police initially stated that they would determine if it was the missing girl. "We cannot disclose additional details at this time due to the time-consuming and crucial investigation work," they said. As per police reports, the girl's father is still in Ukraine, but there's been contact with him.
The body was found in a forest connecting the Rosswein district of Mahlitzsch and the Hermsdorf district of Döbeln along a road. The investigation site was examined by the police until late at night.
Just a few hours after this unsettling revelation, the road linking the two towns was shut down by the police. The Chemnitz Criminal Police and the Crime Scene Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Office of Saxony were at the forefront of these investigations. The Public Prosecutor's Office in Chemnitz is also a part of the investigation team.
More than 400 police officers from both Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt were involved in the ongoing search for Valeriia. However, no solid leads about her whereabouts emerged during the hunt, which intensified in the days leading up to the discovery.
