Subway in Nuremberg - A child's leg is stuck between the control panel and the windshield

A child got its leg stuck between the control panel and the windshield of a driverless U-Bahn in Nuernberg. The fire department rescued the girl, who, according to the rescue team, remained unharmed.

According to the transportation company VAG, the child had knelt down on the control panel at the windshield of a U-Bahn on Line 3 on Monday evening. Since the U-Bahns on this line operate autonomously, the control panel is covered. In the process, the child reportedly got its leg stuck between the control panel and the windshield. The parents were unable to free it. Therefore, the fire department slightly tilted the control panel backwards with wedges.

The control panel is generally not meant to be sat on - even though it may be tempting due to the view of the U-Bahn tunnel, a VAG spokeswoman pointed out in reference to the incident. In case of an emergency stop, there is no way to hold on there. One would collide unchecked against the windshield or fall down, she explained.

The parents immediately contacted the Bavarian fire department in Nuremberg due to the emergency situation. The incident prompted the fire department to implement a safety measure, advising children to avoid the VAG U-Bahn control panels in Bavaria. Despite the incident happening in Nuremberg, similar warnings were issued for Central France, where VAG also operates U-Bahns.
