A week following right-wing extremist demonstrations during the CSD in Bautzen, Saxony's eastern city, neo-Nazis gathered for the Christopher Street Day in Leipzig. The Leipzig Police Department reported on X various violations of the Criminal Code and the Assembly Act. After conferring with the assembly authority, the event's organizer concluded the event with approximately 300 to 400 attendees at the main station following a brief duration. The participants are currently being detained there to carry out all necessary legal proceedings.

Noteworthy behaviors upon arrival

As reported by the officers on X, upon arrival, attendees of the right-wing extremist gathering displayed "collective and at times aggressive or militant behavior." They were subjected to identity checks and searched for potentially hazardous objects.

Authorities' Response

According to the police, due to the aforementioned incidents, authorities prohibited "assemblies with similar intentions or potential for replacement" within the city area for Saturday.

Since morning, multiple thousands gathered on Augustusplatz for the CSD, as per police reports. The authorities, given the situation in Bautzen and the corresponding hazardous circumstances, as well as political undertones, prepared for a substantial response.

Initially, up to 1,000 individuals had registered for the right-wing protest under the slogan "proud, German, national" at the main station. The CSD's parade, known for its large demonstration, was scheduled to pass by nearby. Furthermore, several rallies under the motto "No room for Nazis" were registered by Leipzig takes place alliance.

The previous week's CSD in Bautzen was marred by right-wing extremist protests. Over 1,000 attendees confronted a counter-demonstration of approximately 680 individuals and the title "Against Gender Indoctrination and Identity Confusion!!!" The right-wing extremist micro-party Free Saxony also called for a protest, and in light of security concerns, the CSD organizers cancelled the planned closing party on the eve prior.

In response to the prohibition, the organizer of the right-wing rally decided to relocate the event to a nearby building, ensuring compliance with the assembly restrictions. Despite the relocation, tensions remained high, leading to numerous verbal exchanges between the attendees and counter-protesters.
