A bomb explodes under Russian officer's feet

Shortly after a Russian military intelligence officer and his wife got into their car, a bomb exploded. Both were severely injured in the attack in Moscow, local media report. A connection to Russia's armed conflict with Ukraine is suspected.

In the northern part of Moscow, a senior Russian military officer was severely injured in a car bombing in the morning. An autobomb exploded as the man was getting into the car, a Toyota Land Cruiser, according to the authorities. Two people were injured, the investigation committee stated. The officer's legs were reportedly torn off in the explosion by Russian news agency TASS, and his wife was also injured.

Five other cars were damaged by the force of the explosion. The Moscow Interior Ministry confirmed only one explosion in the capital. On Telegram's Baza channel, it was reported that an officer of the Russian military intelligence service GRU had been "pulverized." Investigators were on the scene at a residential area parking lot to investigate the attack's origins. A Ukrainian trace was also being investigated, it was reported.

During Moscow's armed conflict with Ukraine, there have been frequent bombings on Russian territory, including in the capital. Investigators always blame Ukrainian intelligence services for these attacks.

Connection to Ukraine Conflict?

Circulating on social media were videos from surveillance cameras showing the explosion of the parked vehicle and other damaged cars. The injured were taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

An employee of the Russian Defense Ministry is reportedly the officer, according to the newspaper "Kommersant." He is said to be a military intelligence officer and was responsible for satellite communication in the military and also saw action in the war against Ukraine. No official statements were made regarding this.

In light of Russia's ongoing conflict with Ukraine, rumors circulated about a possible involvement in the car bombing incident. Investigators in Moscow were also examining potential links between the attack and the Ukrainian intelligence services.
