A Boeing aircraft endures 16-hour flight with impaired Rome airport runway, reaching Perth.
Fliers on a Qantas trip from Rome to Perth experienced an airborne ordeal of nearly 16 hours due to an unnoticed wing issue. As reported by Qantas, this occurrence took place on August 24th, traveling from Rome to the western coast of Australia.
Investigations uncovered that a portion of a tire had detached during the Boeing 787 Dreamliner's takeoff, leading to damage to the underside of the right wing.
The aircraft's team became aware of the tire and wing damage only upon landing in Perth - around 16 hours post-departure. "We extend our apologies for the trouble caused to our travelers and express our gratitude for their patience," a Qantas representative conveyed.
Upon arriving in Perth, the team initiated an inspection and discovered the tire debris and wing damage. Due to this unexpected landing incident, the plane required extended maintenance before resuming its journey.
