A bear should be hunted in Norditaly
**After a bear attack on a tourist in the northern Italian region of Trentino, the animal is now set to be killed at the request of the provincial government. Provincial President Maurizio Fugatti ordered the killing, as reported by news agency Ansa. Forest corps and the Wildlife Service are already searching in the woods of the popular area among hikers and tourists for the bear and collecting biological traces to determine which bear is responsible for the attack on the 43-year-old Frenchman.
On Tuesday, a bear surprised and attacked a tourist from France while jogging near the commune of Dro north of Lake Garda. The man was injured on his arms, legs, and back and was taken to a hospital in Trento.
It is suspected that it is a she-bear, known in Trentino as KJ1, who is currently with three cubs. She was previously noted for problematic behavior according to provincial reports. In this context, this means that she was observed too close to inhabited areas or had already come too close to people. Fugatti also ordered the forest corps to intensively monitor the area around the attack site for safety reasons.
Animal welfare organizations have announced that they will take legal action against Fugatti's order. The association LAV described it as a senseless and violent retaliatory action. "The killing of bears does not ensure the safety of citizens, but only pours more innocent blood onto the already spilled", it said in a statement.**
After the Provincial President of Trentino ordered the killing of the bear responsible for attacking a tourist, concerns about animal welfare have arisen. Animal welfare organizations, such as LAV, have announced they will take legal action against Fugatti's decision, viewing it as a senseless and violent retaliatory action.
Despite the ongoing search for the bear in Northern Italy's popular tourist area, the fear of another bear attack has cast a shadow over tourists, making them more cautious during their tours.
