A 74-year-old man narrowly escaped being buried alive.
In the United States, the body of a 74-year-old woman was being prepared for her final resting place when an unlikely discovery was made – she was still alive! This shocking news was confirmed on Tuesday as authorities disclosed that the woman had passed away in a hospital, following the previous declaration of her death. The bizarre incident has sparked a police investigation, though criminal intentions from the nursing home have been ruled out thus far.
The unfortunate series of events began when the elderly woman was pronounced dead at a nursing home in Nebraska on Monday morning. A funeral home was subsequently called to collect the deceased for burial ceremonies. However, the undertaker was surprised to notice that the woman was still breathing. He promptly initiated resuscitation aid, and she was then transported to the hospital. Tragically, the patient ultimately succumbed to her condition later in the day.
While the reason behind this strange occurrence remains mysterious, Deputy Police Chief Ben Houchin shared his 31 years of experience in this field and confessed that the case was an extraordinary one. He expressed deep sympathy towards the family, acknowledging how painful the situation must have been for them. The Lancaster County Attorney has already ordered an autopsy to help clarify the situation. The timeframe for receiving the final results may take up to 12 weeks.
Although such instances are not very common, Dr. Stephen Hughes, a professor in medicine, explained that sometimes the human body may appear lifeless, while still being alive. Doctors watch out for faint heartbeats and breathing attempts to verify someone's condition before officially declaring them dead, as certain medications can slow down bodily functions and introduce some misconceptions at the outset.

In light of this incident, international news outlets have reported an increased interest in the cause of such anomalies, with several deaths being reported worldwide where individuals were mistakenly declared dead before showing signs of life. The USA is not an exception to this phenomenon, as health and medical organizations continue to investigate the underlying causes.
As the autopsy results for the Nebraska case are yet to be released, experts worldwide are eager to study how the patient's condition could have been misdiagnosed, which may lead to improvements in the medical field and more accurate life-or-death assessments.
