Arrest Warrant - A 38-year-old's bicycle ride on footpath ends in prison
After riding a tuned bicycle on the sidewalk in Chemnitz, a 38-year-old man is in prison. The man was noticed by the police on a patrol on Saturday. The police not only found an engine on the bicycle, which can reach over 25 mph and therefore falls under the liability insurance as a so-called S-Pedelec. There was also a warrant out for his arrest, as the Chemnitz Police Department reported, because he had failed to appear in court.
The 38-year-old was then taken before an investigating judge, who executed the warrant. An investigation is now being conducted against him for violating the Weapons Act. The police also found a stun gun disguised as a flashlight on him.
The man's bicycle, with an engine capable of exceeding 25 mph, is considered a S-Pedelec and requires liability insurance due to its speed, making it unsuitable for the footpath. Despite the arrest warrant, the man chose to ride on the sidewalk, leading to his apprehension by police in Saxony's Chemnitz. The local authorities are now investigating him for alleged violations of the Weapons Act, additionally discovering a concealed stun gun on his person.
