A 29-year-old individual passes away after being hit by lightning during Whitsun in Dresden.

During the Pentecost weekend, several lightning strikes took place along the Elbe River resulting in injuries for ten individuals, ranging from 26 to 41 years old. One of the victims, a 29-year-old man, later passed away due to those sustained injuries.

A 29-year-old man tragically lost his life after a lightning strike incident on the Elbe River in Dresden. Over Pentecost Monday, ten individuals reported injuries from lightning strikes near the Carusufer area, close to Rosengarten. Although local authorities reported information on their current health status, they failed to provide updates.

Four of the injured were in critical condition, with two other victims requiring resuscitation after experiencing heart attacks. The first lightning strike happened during a thunderstorm near the Carusufer, and while the fire department attended to the scene, a second strike occurred on the opposite bank. Two men, aged 27 and 30, were subsequently resuscitated due to heart attacks.

Even after seeking medical attention, those affected by lightning strikes typically experience common symptoms such as tingling extremities. The authorities stated that all patients received initial treatment from paramedics, followed by transfer to nearby hospitals. The scene was cordoned off, and a helicopter was deployed to ensure no additional casualties.

Besides the immediate harm, there can be long-term effects - including concentration and memory issues, confusion, or heart rhythm disturbances, as noted by the Dresden fire department.

During a thunderstorm, seeking shelter indoors or inside your car is highly recommended for your safety. In a closed car, lightning is diverted, offering safety within. If accessible shelter is not available, it's imperative to keep yourself low and not be the tallest object in the vicinity - squat, keep your feet together, and shield your head. Additionally, in open areas devoid of shelter, lying down in a ditch or hollow can protect you.

It's essential to avoid proximity to metal poles, fences, wooden poles, trees, water, tires, and even other people. If nearby metal poles, under power lines, or under a sloping roof of a building, you are safer from direct lightning strikes, as per VDE guidelines.
