88 casualties result from boat disaster in Congo
A tragic boating accident in the Democratic Republic of Congo has left at least 86 people dead. The boat, carrying 271 passengers, overturned on the Kwa River close to the capital, Kinshasa, as reported by President Felix Tshisekedi on Wednesday.
Local reports from Radio Okapi reveal that the ship collided with the riverbank and broke apart. Fortunately, 185 people managed to make it to shore, according to the broadcaster.
Sadly, this isn't the first time such an incident has occurred in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Only a few months ago, in February, hundreds of lives were lost when an overcrowded boat sank.
