Sailing - 86. Warnemünde Week Ends - Hundreds of Thousands of Visitors
The 86th Warnemünde Week came to an end on Sunday, nine days after it began. The organizers expressed satisfaction. The regattas and events were reportedly well-attended, and even the promenade was full, according to a spokesperson. Approximately 900 sailors from 28 nations participated in the regattas - from a 12-year-old child to Earle Alexander from Australia, the oldest participant at 81 years old.
Whimsical Weather
According to the spokesperson, all the competitions could be completed, despite the fact that the weather was not consistent. One day was dominated by calm conditions, while another day had a heavy rain warning. "But then you sail on another day with good conditions instead", said the spokesperson.
On the beach and on the Old Stream, various fun sports could be experienced, such as Beach-Rugby and Beach-Handball. The conclusion of the Warnemünde Week was marked by a Dragon Boat Festival on the southern Old Stream, with a total of around 1,200 athletes. The event began a week ago on Saturday with a large procession, the "Niegen Umgang".
Despite the unpredictable weather during the 86th Warnemünde Week, taking place in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Sailing Festival was still a success on Sunday, attracting a large crowd to Rostock's Warnemünde Week. The Dragon Boat Festival, part of the week's conclusion, brought together around 1,200 athletes for an exhilarating cultural event. Earle Alexander, an 81-year-old sailor from Australia, was among the 900 participants from 28 nations who took part in the sailing regattas.
