Discuss Mobilfunkausbau (Mobile network build-out) - 5G Networks in Germany: China calls for fair conditions
China responds critically to the emerging decision to install Chinese technology in 5G-Networks in Germany. Politicization of issues in economics, trade, and technology would only hinder cooperation and not be in the interest of both sides, said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian in Beijing. China hopes that Germany will respect the facts, make rational decisions, and provide a transparent and discrimination-free market environment for companies from all countries, including those from China.
According to informed sources, German government representatives and mobile network operators have reached an agreement on this matter, but a contract has not been signed yet. In the first step, no components from Chinese providers will be allowed in the so-called core network after 2026. The core network mainly refers to data processing centers. The second step concerns the access network, where no Chinese technology will be allowed in control systems after 2029 - these are considered the intelligent and critical part of this network. According to informed sources, the antennas are not affected by this.
Debate for Years
The use of Chinese technology in the construction of 5G networks has been a hotly debated topic for years. It is driven by the concern that China could gain access to German mobile networks through providers like Huawei.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin referred to the fact that Huawei and other Chinese telecommunications companies have been active in Europe for many years and have built high-quality infrastructure there. They have also created many jobs and tax revenues. There is also no evidence that these companies threaten the national security of European countries.
- The federal government of Germany is currently engaged in discussions about the installation of telecommunication equipment from Chinese companies, specifically Huawei, in its 5G networks, a topic that has sparked diplomatic discussions between Berlin and Beijing.
- The Federal government's decision on this matter is significant in the context of telecommunication, as it could impact the market shares of Chinese telecom giants like Huawei in Europe.
- The Federal government's stance on the use of Chinese technology in its 5G networks has drawn attention from various international bodies, who are observing the situation closely to ensure a level playing field in the global telecommunication market.
- Germany's position on this issue could have far-reaching implications for global telecommunication and diplomatic relations between various countries, including China, whose telecommunication companies, like Huawei, could potentially be impacted by the decision.
