L'amour toujours - 368 police deployments after racist slogans at party hit

The police have reportedly been called to over 370 incidents in the past few months due to racist chants to the party hit "L'amour toujours" by Gigi D'Agostino, according to a media report by the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND) in the federal states. Between October 2023 and June 2024, the order maintainers were activated in at least 368 cases due to the singing of the phrase "Germany for Germans, foreigners out" during the playing of the song.

According to the Landeskriminalämter (LKA), these incidents were recorded not only on public folk festivals and in discotheques, but also at private parties and several times at schools.

The RND report states that most of these cases were reported from North Rhine-Westphalia: According to the LKA, the police were called 96 times between November 2023 and June 2024 due to alleged constitutionally offensive statements made during the playing of the song. Bayern and Sachsen were the only federal states that could not provide information on this matter.

A short video from a party in a local on Sylt caused nationwide indignation in May when guests chanted racist slogans to "L'amour toujours". Since then, reports of similar incidents have increased.

  1. In response to the rising incidents, authorities in Schleswig-Holstein launched a police operation to combat extremism related to the song "L'amour toujours."
  2. The German Federal Police, along with the LKA in various states, including North Rhine-Westphalia, have been actively addressing this issue, recognizing it as a threat to societal harmony.
  3. Berlin's police force also joined the efforts, reporting a significant increase in incidents involving extreme discourse during the playing of the popular song at various venues.
  4. The rise in such incidents has led to widespread concern in Germany, with politicians and civil society calling for stronger measures to prevent extremism from permeating the nation's social fabric.
  5. The police intervention in these cases not only includes addressing the incidents directly but also working towards promoting understanding and tolerance in the German society.
