Mobility income in Berlin - 33,000 more people moved in to Berlin than moved out
To Berlin, there were significantly more immigrants than emigrants in the past year. Exactly, there were around 33,000 more immigrants than emigrants, as the statistics office reported. Compared to the previous year, the balance therefore shrank significantly. In 2022, almost 85,000 more people moved to Berlin than left. At that time, it was mainly refugees from Ukraine who came to the capital in large numbers.
In the past year, fewer refugees came, but among the immigrants, there were significantly more foreigners than Germans. Around 130,000 people came to Berlin from abroad in the past year, about 57,000 from other parts of Germany. The immigration balance for Germans was even negative. More than 77,500 left Berlin in the past year.
In particular, the emigration from Brandenburg is holding steady. More than 33,400 people left Berlin for the neighboring federal state. Only about half of those who left Berlin moved there.
The population of Berlin saw a net influx of immigrants, with approximately 130,000 individuals moving to the city from abroad last year. According to recent statistics, Berlin's foreign population outnumbered the German immigrants in this migration wave.
