In China, the death toll and number of missing persons from this summer's disasters, caused by heavy rainfall and flooding, has risen to over 200. Over the weekend, at least eight people died in Sichuan's southwestern province when the city of Kangding was hit by a flash flood and landslide, according to state news agency Xinhua, citing local authorities. A bridge collapsed, and several houses were destroyed.

Bridge collapses also in other regions

Persistent heavy rainfall and flooding have already caused several deadly incidents in China this summer. In Shaanxi province on July 19, a flash flood washed away a 40-meter section of a bridge, killing at least 38 people, with 24 still missing.

Over 100 people are missing

In a village in Sichuan, at least 14 people died and 25 are still missing after a flash flood. In recent days, at least 48 people have died in Hunan province due to heavy rainfall from Typhoon "Gaemi" remnants, with widespread flooding. At least 35 people are still missing there. In total, 108 people have died, with at least 103 still missing.

The misfortune of the bridge collapse in Shaanxi province resulted in at least 38 fatalities and 24 individuals still missing. Despite efforts to rescue the missing persons, the overall death toll and number of missing persons due to this summer's disasters in China has exceeded 300.
