Bavarian Sport - 20 million Euro damage due to flooding

The flood disaster in June of this year costs Bavaria's Sports a lot of money. According to initial calculations by the Bavarian State Sports Association (BLSV), the quantifiable damages amount to around 20 million Euro. The intangible losses such as missed sports hours and additional voluntary work for rebuilding are not yet included, the BLSV stated.

The Sports Association sees rapid and bureaucracy-free financial aid as necessary to support the charitable sports clubs with their many volunteers.

President: "Shocking Images"

The BLSV offers emergency aid with an increased subsidy of up to 50% on eligible costs. In addition, sports clubs can be supported by the state of Bavaria's emergency aid.

"The images directly after the flood and the storms in the preceding June are shocking. Now it's up to us to look ahead and actively engage in a quick rebuilding process," said BLSV President Jörg Ammon.

"Moreover, we must ensure that the dimensions of weather disasters for the sports facilities in Bavaria in the future significantly decrease, whether through a sustainable environmental and flood protection policy, or through a comprehensive and binding insurance coverage for sports clubs," he emphasized.

The sports clubs in Bavaria, affected by the flood, can also seek financial aid from the state's emergency aid alongside the increased subsidy offered by the Bavarian State Sports Association (BLSV). The rapid and bureaucracy-free financial aid from the state and BLSV is crucial for charitable sports associations, as the sporting facilities and events in Bavaria require extensive calculation and association to ensure proper rebuilding post-flood in Munich and the surrounding areas.
