Bavarian Minister President Markus Söder and Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann, both from CSU, are heading to the flood-stricken area of Augsburg on Saturday. They plan to assess the flood situation firsthand in Diedorf as the Interior Ministry announced. District Administrator Martin Sailer will also be joining them. The visit's location was changed at the last moment due to the situation. Originally, the politicians intended to visit the flood-hit town of Fischach. In Diedorf, evacuation preparations are underway for the residents. The flood conditions are dire in Swabia, with water levels increasing quickly. Following Günzburg, the districts of Augsburg and Aichach-Friedberg have declared a disaster situation.

The rising floodwaters in Meckenbeuren

The flooded Schussen river in Meckenbeuren in Bodenseekreis continues to rise. In the afternoon, the level reached 4.72 meters, as a spokeswoman from the municipality reported. The hopes are high that the peak will be reached soon. During the last flood in 2021, the river rose to 4.50 meters. Under normal circumstances, the river carries only 45 cm of water. On Friday evening, the municipality advised around 1300 people to evacuate their homes as a precaution. The majority moved to stay with relatives or friends. A small number opted for the emergency shelter. To prevent any possible damage due to flooding, schools, kindergartens, and halls were cleared out beforehand. In the community of 14,000 people, bridges were also closed as a safety measure.
