19 bodies discovered in garbage truck in Mexico

In the southern Mexican border region of Chiapas, drug cartels are fighting over the most profitable smuggling routes. Now, authorities in the area have found more than a dozen bodies in a garbage truck. All the dead showed gunshot wounds.

Mexican authorities have discovered 19 bodies in the southern part of the country. The bodies were found near a abandoned garbage truck near the city of La Concordia in the state of Chiapas, according to the Ministry of Public Security. Fourteen bodies were on the bed of the truck, two in the cab, and three others nearby. All the victims were shot. Among the dead were at least six men with Guatemalan documents. Reports of the crime emerged at the end of the previous week. In a video, the bodies were seen on the bed of the truck. They were wearing tactical clothing and carried weapons.

The murders near the Guatemalan border are linked to bloody turf battles between the Sinaloa drug cartel and a rival gang known as the Cartel of Mexico and Guatemala, it was reported. This gang could have connections to the Sinaloa cartel's arch-enemy, the Jalisco cartel. Due to the increasing profitability of human trafficking and drug trafficking in the region, cartels have been fighting for control over smuggling routes for the past year.

The increasing violence in Chiapas has caused thousands of people to flee from their homes. In May, armed men shot and killed municipal mayor candidate Lucero López Maza and five others, including a young girl, during a campaign event in La Concordia. Only a few days earlier, eleven people had been killed in the nearby village of Chicomuselo. The government recently sent 1200 additional soldiers and police to the Guatemalan border area.

The International community has expressed concern over the escalating Drug war in Mexico, particularly in the border regions like Chiapas. Despite the deployment of additional security forces, organized crime groups continue to perpetrate violent acts, such as the recent discovery of 19 bodies with gunshot wounds near La Concordia.
