Uelzen - 18-year-old man is suspected of murder - arrest warrant expected

After the violent death of a 55-year-old man at Uelzen train station, the victim is still being autopsied today. Police spokesperson Kai Richter assumes that the 18-year-old suspected perpetrator, who is alleged to have pushed or kicked the 55-year-old, will also be presented to the magistrate today.

The older man from Lüneburg fell several steps of a staircase in the night on Sunday, suffered a skull-brain injury, and died despite resuscitation efforts at the scene. The 18-year-old fled initially and was arrested that night.

The suspected perpetrator is a Moroccan who has been living in a shelter for asylum seekers in Uelzen since June. He is currently being temporarily detained, said Richter. Charges of manslaughter are being investigated against the 18-year-old. A blood test is to determine if he was under the influence of drugs. According to his information, the North African came to Germany in 2021 as an unaccompanied refugee, currently he is being tolerated, the spokesman explained.

Victim a traveler to Lüneburg

According to the current investigations, the suspected perpetrator and the 55-year-old did not know each other. The Lüneburger was supposed to be on his way home to the Hanseatic city. Whether a quarrel preceded the fall down the stairs was unclear.

The young man had only been released from police custody a few hours before the death of the 55-year-old. Previously, he had been noticed for a purse snatching, bodily harm, and drug offenses. At the Uelzen bus station, the 18-year-old is said to have hit a 31-year-old in the face with an open hand.

The police are currently evaluating video sequences from the station and are still looking for witnesses who may have seen the crime.

  1. The autopsy of the 55-year-old victim from Lüneburg, who tragically passed away due to Skull-Brain-Trauma at the Uelzen train station, is still ongoing today.
  2. Kai Richter, the police spokesperson from Lower Saxony, indicated that the arrest warrant for the 18-year-old suspect, who is allegedly responsible for the victim's death, will be issued by the magistrate today.
  3. On Sunday night, the 18-year-old suspect, who has been living in a shelter for asylum seekers in Uelzen since June, was arrested following Skull-Brain-Trauma-related incidents in both Uelzen and Lüneburg.
  4. Despite initial attempts to evade arrest, the 18-year-old, who hails from Morocco and entered Germany as an unaccompanied refugee in 2021, is being held in police custody in relation to the Arrest Warrant and allegations of Criminality.
  5. As the investigation into the 55-year-old's death continues, police are actively seeking witnesses who may have information relating to the events surrounding Tod (death) at the Uelzen train station.
