False alarm - 18-year-old causes police operation with softair gun

An 18-year-old triggered a police operation near three schools in Saarlouis, Germany, with a replica air gun (Softair weapon). The police reported that precautionary measures were taken at the schools, such as locking down access and keeping children inside. The police had previously received a witness report of a man with a weapon. Shortly thereafter, the police encountered the 18-year-old, who was carrying a convincing replica of an assault rifle. He reportedly intended to shoot in a nearby wooded area with the air gun. The schools were subsequently given all clear.

During the operation, rumors circulated on social media about shootings at various schools, leading to numerous concerned calls from parents and teachers. However, there was never a concrete danger, according to the police statement. The 18-year-old was charged with carrying a prop weapon.
