Processes - 17-year-old inline skater killed: Verdict expected

Approximately four months after the commencement of the process regarding the murder of a 17-year-old Inline Skater in Barenburg (Landkreis Diepholz), the verdict is expected at the Landgericht Verden this afternoon. The accused 43-year-old German is alleged to have injured two more women three days after the crime in September 2023: Firstly, he is said to have attacked a 30-year-old woman on a parking lot of a Fast-Food Restaurant in Sulingen (Landkreis Diepholz) with a knife.

Shortly thereafter, he is claimed to have intentionally driven his car into an 18-year-old jogger in the Hanover region. The young woman, according to statements made by Prosecutor Annette Marquardt, was "thrown through the air 13 to 17 meters". The indictment alleges two counts of attempted murder.

No information on the motive

The motive for the acts remained unclear up until the last moment. The defense attorneys had attempted to persuade the defendant to speak during the last hearing with emotional pleas. The defendant, a farmer, had stated during the trial that he could only recall the events fragmentarily. Prosecutor Marquardt emphasized in her closing argument that she did not believe his "blackout" claim. She believes in a "well-planned approach". Witnesses described the defendant as empathetic and solitary.

Defendant is fully accountable

All three women were random victims. According to a psychiatric report, the defendant is fully accountable. Both the defense and the prosecution argued for a life sentence. The prosecution also requested the determination of aggravating circumstances and the ordering of preventive detention. The prosecution counsel listed jealousy and low motives as aggravating factors. The defendant has a prior conviction; according to a court spokesperson, he was sentenced to probation in 2017 for a attempted sexual assault.

  1. The crime scene of the murder was located in Barenburg, a town situated in the District of Diepholz, Lower Saxony.
