- 13-year-old pleads guilty to the England riots
A 13-year-old girl has admitted to involvement in far-right violence at an asylum seeker accommodation center in England. The teenager confessed in court to making threats of violence at a protest in the town of Aldershot, southwest of London. Sentencing will take place on September 30.
Two 12-year-old boys had already admitted their involvement in riots on Monday. Authorities have so far arrested 975 people. At least 50 minors have been charged, according to analysis by the British news agency PA. The age of criminal responsibility in England is 10 years old.
The days of unrest in several towns were preceded by a stabbing incident in the northwest English town of Southport. Three girls were stabbed and several children were injured. False information was spread on social media, claiming the attacker was a Muslim migrant. The 17-year-old suspect was born in the UK to Rwandan parents.
The local community expressed concern over the escalating violence in the town following the stabbing incident. The Community Center organized a meeting to discuss ways to promote peace and unity among residents.
