Youngest daughter killed - man has to go to psychiatric hospital

On Tuesday, the Ulm Regional Court ordered the placement in a psychiatric hospital of a 41-year-old man who had killed his youngest daughter. The court considered it proven that the defendant had injured the girl with a knife in April while delusional and that the girl had bled to death. The Serb's schizophrenia had been causal for the crime and he was not culpable. By ordering his placement, the court complied with the demands of the public prosecutor's office, joint plaintiffs and the defense.

If a sane person had committed the crime, it would have been murder out of malice aforethought, said the judge in his ruling. However, the man fulfilled the characteristics of schizophrenia. In a bizarre religious delusion, he had assumed that he had to sacrifice his daughter in order to take away the sins of the world. Seemingly playfully, he made his daughter tie his hands - and then killed her with a knife. He then called the police. The verdict is not yet final.

The public prosecutor's office and the joint plaintiffs advocated for the man's placement in a psychiatric hospital after the tragic crime. The court's decision to comply with this request was based on the man's schizophrenia being the causal factor in the criminal processes leading to his daughter's judgments.
