Study - Young people are most concerned about wars
According to a study, young people in Germany are most afraid of war: According to the study, 53 percent of respondents cite wars as a reason for major personal fears, according to the Sinus Youth Study published in Berlin on behalf of the health insurance company Barmer. In 2022, the figure was as high as 56 percent. However, the current survey does not yet take into account the war between Israel and Hamas.
Teenagers between the ages of 14 and 17 were also very concerned about climate change (47%) and environmental pollution (46%).
However, young people are looking ahead more positively again. According to the survey, 79% are currently optimistic about their future. This is four percentage points more than in 2022, but still two points less than in 2021, the health insurance company added. Meanwhile, 81% of the teenagers surveyed are satisfied with their lives again, which is four percentage points more than in 2022.
In contrast to their own lives, young people are only cautiously positive about the future of Germany and the world, according to the statement. 48% and 41% respectively have an optimistic view here. Although this is an increase for Germany compared to last year, it is still 14 percentage points less than in 2021.
Around 2,000 young people aged between 14 and 17 were surveyed across Germany from September to the beginning of October for the study.
