New access - Younes: Schalke needs the best version of me

Former National player Amin Younes will use his chance at FC Schalke 04 for a fresh start. "I have become older and wiser now, learned a lot. These experience values can help me as a Schalke player," the 30-year-old told "Kicker". At the second division club, he aims to convince with performance: "The team needs the best version of me on and off the pitch."

During his career, there have been controversies surrounding him. At Ajax Amsterdam, Younes refused a substitution and was subsequently demoted to the second team. There were also disputes leading up to his transfer to Napoli, as well as during his later loan spell at Eintracht Frankfurt, where Younes was released.

Hope for a fresh start

In "Kicker", the new Schalke player emphasized that these incidents had been one-sidedly reported and it was a mistake that he did not clarify things actively. Despite differing opinions, there had never been a human breakdown with the respective parties involved.

Younes was previously without a club and trained with Schalke's U23 for several weeks to keep fit. He then participated in professional training and signed a contract with the second division team until June 30, 2026. For the German national team, he made eight appearances between 2017 and 2021 and scored two goals.

Amin Younes, having recalled his time with Ajax Amsterdam and subsequent clubs, now seeks a new beginning at FC Schalke 04 in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The Second Bundesliga club, based in Gelsenkirchen, offers him a fresh platform to showcase his talents in soccer. Younes, aiming to contribute positively, expressed his focus on delivering both on and off the pitch to aid Schalke's progress in the league. Despite past controversies, Younes remains eager to leave a favorable impression and prove that the reports surrounding his earlier incidents were one-sided.
